WABA CEO MARSHA BLOUNTS STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF RACHELLE JONES, WABA OFFICIAL
NEW JERSEY, June 18th, 2018 – WABA CEO Marsha Blount released the following statement on the passing of Rachelle Jones.
“Rachelle will be remembered as a decorated WABA Official, who played an intricate role in the WABA’s inaugural season. Rachelle was an accomplished NCAA Official and an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness.
In October of 2017, the Mount Vernon Shamrocks hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness night in honor of those lives lost, those suffering from it, and those who beat this dreaded and deadly disease. Rachelle was the Orchestrator of that event. Always humble and unassuming, it was shared upon her passing that, though suffering from Breast Cancer herself, she continued to officiate and took it upon herself to become the uniform sponsor of the Shamrocks Breast Cancer Event.
Breast Cancer Awareness was her mission, and we are thankful that she was a part of our WABA family and that she continued to bring awareness to the disease. The WABA will dedicate the final regular season home games to Breast Cancer Awareness throughout the league.
On a personal note, Rachelle was a dear friend and Mount Vernon High School Lady Knights teammate, who loved her teammates, many of whom she was still close with and made a point to support.
On behalf of the WABA, we extend our deepest sympathy to her mother, children, and family”
