The Jersey Expressions Are The 2018 WABA Champions to Earn Their Second Consecutive Title
NEW JERSEY, OCTOBER 28th, 2018 – The Jersey Expressions are the 2018 WABA Champions!! Jersey defeated the Atlanta Angels 115-87 to earn their second consecutive title.
The Expressions got off to a fast start, running off 8 straight points to begin the game, and earning a 31-9 advantage after the 1st. The Expressions continued their hot streak in the 2nd going into the half up 68-26. After the break, the Expressions went up big, before Atlanta got hot in the 4th outscoring Jersey by 24, pressing and utilizing the 3D rule for the final score.
‘Our goal at the start of the season was to repeat as WABA champions. The team was focused from the tip and played their hearts our against a tough Atlanta team. We look forward to the expansion of the league and hope to make another appearance in the championship; stated Gail Bryant, President.
Melissa Johnson, Owner Atlanta Angels; by the time we started to get into the flow, the score was too far out of reach, But I am so proud of my team, they dug deep, didn’t give up and fought until the very end. Once again, they showed great character. Congratulations to the Jersey Expressions on your back to back championship. Aliyyah Handford led the Expressions to victory with 43pts, 12rbds, 4asts & 4stls and was named the WABA Championship MVP, joining teammate Erika Jones as the only players in league history to earn the honor. Tabatha Richardson-Smith added 23pts, 6rbds & 3stls for the Expressions. Khadijah Sessions finished with 33pts for the Atlanta Angels.
After yet another successful season, we’re already expanding for season 3, with 7 additional teams scheduled to be added for 2019.
